Summerfield Nurseries is a family run business located in the small village of staple with over 50 years of growing expertise. Below is an extract from a previous edition of Country Living magazine.

"This family run business was established 45 years ago and is still very much a family concern. Ron Sear is retired but still takes an active interest in everything, while his son Grahame is responsible for growing the vast range of plants that the nursery produces. From 4 and a half acres of mainly glasshouses the nursery supplies the trade as well as retail. In spring and summer there is a profusion of bedding plants, as well as geraniums, fuchsias and pelargonium. Ron's daughter Karen is responsible for the gorgeous displays in the glasshouse as well as the wide range of prepared potted plants, patio tubs and hanging baskets. There is always a selection of terra cotta pots and other plant holders for those who want to produce their own displays and friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to advise on how to use them to best advantage.
Unlike many nurseries and despite its name, Summerfield blossoms in the winter. Anyone who has ever despaired of the feeble examples of poinsettia available in supermarkets or even in most garden centres should visit Summerfield in November or December. A noted specialist in poinsettia, they produce over 12,000 plants in 30 different varieties. The displays are truly breathtaking. Inside the vast glasshouse, tables packed with fresh and healthy plants create a sea of vibrant colour stretching out as far as the eye can see. For the last five years the nursery has held poinsettia walks in November and December, with free tea and coffee and biscuits to allow people to enjoy the spectacle."
